MORE INFO ABOUT AREA

The Province of Arezzo is situated in the south-east region of Tuscany in Italy in the heart of four different valleys: Val Tiberina , Casentino, Valdarno and Valdichiana. Boarded by the Apennines, it's a perfect fusion of countryside, historical and cultural inheritance and masterpieces of art.

Once part of Etruscan and Roman Civilization, the comune of Arezzo is also the birthplace to two extraordinary Renaissance figures such as Petrarca, poet and painter  and art historian Giorgio Vasari, whose house, Casa di Vasari, is located in the very heart of the city and is one of the biggest tourist attractions.

Even if this area is not well known by the locals, its monuments, churches and museums will take you back in time when history and art where thriving. If you love admiring frescoes you won't be disappointed since you will surely discover the marvelous "Legend of the True Cross" in the Church of San Francisco by Piero della Francesca .

The most renowned square of the city is probably the Piazza Grande, a medieval square where you will find a Romanesque church called "Santa Maria Della Pieve". Here you will experience an unforgettable local atmosphere and you will see how locals truly live their everyday life. One of the rituals of the locals is gathering all together in Piazza Grande in occasion of the "Fiera dell'antiquariato" that takes place every first weekend of the month.

The old town also boasts other remarkable monuments such as Medici Fortress, Diocesan Museum and Basilica of San Domenico. If you are looking for art and history, but you prefer privacy and relaxation above all, the Province of Arezzo is the right location to visit.

HOW TO REACH AREA

Arezzo is one of the largest towns in Tuscany and can be easily reached by car, train, bus or plane. If you wish to enjoy the landscapes created by the lovely Tuscan countryside along the way then getting to Arezzo by car is the best solution. When travelling from Florence or Rome we'd suggest you to take the Autostrada del Sole (A1 Milan-Naples) or  SS69, the SS71 or the SS73, and exit at “Arezzo”. The center of the city is only 10 kilometers away from this exit. As far as the road distance from the major Italian cities, Florence is 74 km away, Siena 89 km, Cortona 29 km, Perugia 92 km and Rome 218 km.

The Arezzo train station is the main station of the province and is located midway between Florence and Rome. It’s also one of the stations along the railway Rome-Bologna. There are two major railway companies that can reach Arezzo: Trenitalia (Ferrovie dello Stato group) and LFI (La Ferroviaria Italiana) that also connects Rome, Florence, Milan, Naples, Valdarno, Valtiberina, Pratovecchio and Sinalunga. If you need to go to Florence quickly then you can take the train called “direttissima”  that reaches Florence in just 40 minutes.

If you prefer taking the bus you will also be able to reach Siena, Florence, Rome and other nearby towns purchasing a ticket from one of the companies that provide this service.

At last Arezzo can be as well reached by plane. The closest airports are: "Amerigo Vespucci" airport of Florence, about 90 kilometres away from Arezzo, and "Galileo Galilei" airport of Pisa, located about 155 kilometers away from Piazza Grande, the major city's square.
