North of the province of Siena you can enjoy some splendid panoramic views of the Chianti hills, where in the towns Gaiole, Radda, and Castellina [to name but a few] some of the world’s best and most prestigious wines are found. To the south are the stunning valleys Valdelsa, Val d’Orcia, and Val di Chiana. Framed by the cypress and pine trees, planted to protect roads and farmhouses from the wind, their outline interrupts the soft lines of the hills. Siena is a typical example of the medieval city, from which the ancient palazzi and monuments rise up even today. The symbol of the city is the marvellous Piazza del Campo, in which twice a year the 17 districts of the city run the famous Palio.
